FiiO E5 Headphone Amplifier & Griffin Reval Etch graphite casing

Finally, the long awaited FiiO E5 portable amplifier has arrived. The package includes the E5 amplifier itself, 1 15cm 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio line, 1 80cm 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio line, 1 60cm USB-A to mini USB charge line.

The E5 is a Portable Headphone Amplifier designed to improve the sound quality and volume of any Digital Audio Player such as a MP3 or MP4 Player, Mobile Phone, Laptop, or Notebook. It is an upgraded model of the E3 Headphone Amplifier which is very popular around the world. It retains all the advantages of the E3, and is encased in a very small metal unit! Now with a volume control so you can connect directly to the line out of a Digital Audio Player and control the volume directly!
But it is more than just an upgraded version of the E3!

It has a higher power output, better Signal to Noise ratio and Lower Distortion! And with the new TI’s headphone amp solution, the E5's have better sound quality and can work better with high impedance headphones. With a sound effect switch which switches between "Flat" and "Bass Boost" modes, the E5 will be a good pair with many different headphones

Audio Technica ATH-SJ1 Headphone

I have just gotten myself a FiiO E5 mobile amplifier from a online shop and are waiting for it to arrived. So while waiting for the amplifier to come, I decided to get myself a new headphone to paired with it.

As usual after work today, I decided to go shop for a new headphone and decided that Challenger @ Whitesands would be fine. Upon reaching, I was stuck at the earphone/headphone session for almost 20mins as there was too many choices for me to choose. And after much consideration, I decided to get this Audio-Technica ATH-SJ1 headphone.

The price for this was $48 but I manage to get it at $45 with the challenger member discount. Some photos taken:

Did some simple test with my iphone and my desktop, found out that the sound quality wasn't that fantastic, hollow and no bass. Definitely not for someone who is looking for an audiophile headphone. That is a Chinese saying that goes like this "所為一分錢一分貨..." The sound quality definitely worth the price I paid for. But of course, I hope that the sound quality will improved after pairing up with the amplifier.
